My computer and my roomates computer are both on a wireless network in our apartment. We use cable internet connection and are using a linksys router. There is a large amount of files on my roomates Mac that i am wanting to transfer to my PC. I have messed around with some of the network settings on my PC but have had no luck. i can never find his computer and am not sure how to find it. Is this the best way to do this transfer (over the network) or would it be easy through some kind of direct connect between the comps.

I'm not even sure if a MAC can read samba shares (windows file shares). It might be able to, but it would be much easier to use something a little more standard like ftp which both OS understand. You'll find it's not that hard to setup a pretty basic ftp (can be setup in under 2 mins) and it'll be way easier then trying to get a MAC to read samba shares.

Granted if you've never setup an ftp server before it could take you 10 to 15 mins to follow an install guide, but it's not too trouble some.
