best way to tsfr my old hdd to a new pc

Hello,
I recently bought a new PC and I have a lot (about 80gigs) of data on my old PC's second drive.
My old PC only has USB 1.1 while my new PC has USB 2.0 and Firewire. -I figure I'll be stuck with USB 1.1 speeds for the transfer, eh?
I really want the data on my old PC's second drive to be transfered to my new PC's 250Gig Serial ATA HDD -the new PC won't allow me to slave the old PC's second drive. -So what's the best way to transfer the data? -an in-depth explanation would be appreciated.

New PC:

*OS: --Windows Media Center.
*Mem: --1 gig DDR
*HDD: --250G Serial ATA (7200RPM)
*Video: --ATI X800 256MB PCIe
*SOUND: --Creative Audigy Platinum

 

Any ideas on why the new pc won't allow you to slave the new HD?

 

It's a *gulp* "HP" Media Centre. -There just aren't enough connections -that *I* can see at least.
