I recently bought a new Lenovo laptop with Windows 8.1. Since I have used these programs in the past, I immediately installed:
    Avast (Free)
    MBAM (Free)
    SpywareBlaster
    CCleaner

Best Buy threw in Kaspersky Internet Security when I bought the laptop.

1-Over the last half year or so I have started to question just how secure my pcs are with the above software. Also getting a little tired of the nag screens from Avast trying to get me to pay for the premium version and other items. I would like to find out if I should upgrade to a better antivirus program and if so would Kaspersky Internet Security fit the bill?

2-Also, I would not mind paying for MBAM Premium to make it a real time blocking tool if it is worth it (only $25 for 3 pc's). Should I upgrade?

I do want better software (protection), if that is what I will be getting, and don't mind the small costs involved.

    Thanks for any feedback.

Kaspersky is good if you want to purchase it. MBAM is also good if you want to buy it. Most just use the free version. Just don't install TWO anti-virus programs.

if you want to stay with free then you got the best one out of the lot avast.
But paid there is loads kaspersky is good (good Protection uses less system resources). MBAM is good also for anti-malware.

Like TIMW says don't install 2 anti-virus programs as they will conflict and cause more problems then solving them.

The security you have is adequate for 9 out of 10 PC users. Keep them up to date and remember, the best security is between your ears.

I almost forgot to log back on and thank all of you guys for your input. THANKS!!

I need to clear up a probable misleading comment I must have made. I never had two AV software programs installed. The laptop came pre-packed with a trail offer for MacAfee which I never activated and immediately deleted right before installing AVAST. Best Buy did give me a free copy of Kaspersky but it is still in the package. I will stay with AVAST.

Note: After asking you guys what you would do (stay with AVAST or switch to Kaspersky, I asked the Best Buy Geeks what they thought was best. The first guy I talked to said Kaspersky or Web root was better. The second Best Buy Geek admitted they tell customers that because they sell those products. At least I found a honest guy!!!! I need to keep him on speed-dial.

I do think I will upgrade MBAM to make it real time protection. So now I have one more question. Since the upgrade cost pays for 3 computers, how do I upgrade MBAM on my other two PC without paying? Do they provide a reference # to use when I upgrade on those PCs?

    Thanks

    Good idea.
Malwarebytes will give you a code which you will enter in MBAM on each PC. After all 3 MBAMs have been activated, the code will not work on any additional PC.
