BF1942..should I?

Ok...here is my question...

being on a very limited gaming budget... (that whole wife and kid and house thing makes it tough to spend money on games!)

is BF1942 worth it?? I tried the demo and wasn't at all impressed... but I have been told that the real game is much better..

Keep in mind that I love Ut2K3 (never said I was good! )

so I love fast paced... also, with the above formentioned wife and kid I cannot sit at a game for hours on end...

so should I get Bf1942.. or is there something else out there that is better??

Yes! I love it. I only play single player, and I can play that for hours. If you get it, you have to get the Desert Combat mod. That mod is sooo cool. It is worth getting BF1942 just for the DC mod.

Well since you like fast paced games. I would say don't get Bf1942. I have it and do enjoy it, but with what you mentioned above you should get something like Ut2k3 if you don't already have it.
Bf1942 can be fast paced at times, but generally it is not. Plus you got to run far, well their are vehicles though.
So I say pass on it.

Battlefield 1942, the addon and mods are a lot of fun. They are not as fast paced as UT or Quake, but can be pretty action packed.

I played the single player and enjoyed it, though the bots, like most games with huge maps and multiple objectives, are not too bright.

So, the game shines in its multiplayer. But, as others have said, theres some strategy and other things going on, its attempting to be realistic and anything realistic usually has slow spots, action, slow spots, action.

I hate to say to get it based on your need for fast paced games, but I really enjoy this one.

Edit: Forget I posted, the guys answered everything above. I think I just repeated them, but wanted to echo it so you know so many of us agree, its probably a good assesment of the game.

hmz, I think the respwaning will be an annoying problem for someone who likes fast paced games, liek me too, thats really annoying, but for the rest its a great game escpecially on internet, or a big LAN party

yeah the big maps are by no way fast paced...especiall in single player. the smaller maps like berlin and stalingrad are pretty fast paced, even in single player.

true, and if you find a server with a lot of players, or you add a lot of bots, the server becomes laggy and you wont have fast paced at all

very little intentional tk and there are permanent bans for kids screwing around intentionally.tk-ing.
basic training sucked imo
it was like a tutorial.
and to get the sniper rifle or the 203 you have to earn it.this game is intense fun.but it takes a bit to learn, yes i suck)

Man i remember laughing my ass off when i first played BF1942, taking me and my cousin literally an HOUR to learn how to fly the planes, we get them goin for 5 secs on the run way then they would slowly go to the right and crash LOL!
