BF1942 Sound/VidCard Issues

Windows XP Home
Athlon 1600+XP
1G RAM
Geforce3 to 9800pro
Audigy to onboard sound (AC97)
EPOX 8KHA+

Current Drivers and BF1942 version.

I recently upgraded my Geforce 3 to a 9800pro. The 9800 was working great until I tried to play BF1942. Initially I was getting a slight hesitation every few seconds inBF1942. I tried turning all the settings down but it didn't help. So I disabled the sound and the hesitation went away. I updated all my drivers. No go. So I removed the audigy, used Driver Cleaner (also used it to remove the Nvidia drivers) and installed the onboard sound driver's. Now BF1942 CTD's in the main menu when I point at a button. Again, with the sound disabled the problem goes away.

Suggestions?

 

uninstall the game, delete the BF1942 install directory, reinstall bf1942
