BF2 incompatible with Vista?

Heya guys, I got the BF2 Complete Collection (DVD), ad tried to install it on my Windows Vista laptop. The install and all the patches go up fine, and then I try to run the game. The BF2 screen comes up, then the entire screen blacks out. A few moments later, I am presented with the desktop again. I ran an included utility for troubleshootng, and it showed that the game is incompatible with my OS (32-bit Vista Basic). I hopped over to EA's website, but i's so convoluted that I can't find what I need (info on making it compatible, or a patch hat does it). Nyone know where I can find either of those things?


Please excuse the spelling errors. This isn't my laptop, and the keyboard is very different from the one I'm used to. Toshiba sucks.

 

I had this Vista problem with COD2 in Multiplayer (singleplayer was fine). Find the BF2.exe file that starts the game and right click its properties and try setting the compatability tab to run in XP.

 

UPDATE: I was looking through Windows updates, and one of the optional updates' descriptions was "Helps with compatibility issues with many applications and windows Vista." I rubbed my forehead, and installed it. BING! BF2 works now. If you're like me and install the critical Windows updates, but only glance through the optionals (I never use Windows E-mail protection. I'm not updating it.), keep an eye out for that one. Still can't get Final Fantasy 7 to work though, even in XP compatibility mode.:cry

i think i have the same problem.
my BF2 and BF2142, starts op then black screen and then it minimizes. into start bar,

after i installed my asus 8800 gtx. it worked with my old 6600 gt
and it has worked with the 8800 but only a few times. and newer since
