BF2 problems

First off system specs

Amd 3700+ san diego
2gig ocz platinum edition
(2) geforce 6800 in sli
200g seagate HD
asus a8n-sli deluxe mobo
680w psu

About a week ago BF2 ran fine but things started getting real screwy. Random shutdowns, couldnt check system devices. I reformated and repaired windows and installed drivers but now when I try to play BF2 it loads the map and shuts down my computer without warning as soon as the level is loaded or about 5 seconds after. This is confusing the heck out of me and the only ideas I have is Direct X 9.0c is corrupt. Ideas, helpful hints?

Also ive uninstalled bf2 and installed it but it still does it , so i doubt bf2 is corrupt.

 

Do you have the latest patch installed from the Electronic Arts website?

 

Yes 1.02 but maybe its just me but right after i install that patch it says i successfully installed 1.01....But that wouldnt explain why wow does the same thing

 

Right can you try it with just one of the geforce cards in, yes physically take out the 2nd one, and make sure you have the up to date drivers from the nvidia website.

 

ok i did what you said and bf2 works perfectly fine with one card in but its not as smooth and pretty as 2 . What do you think is the matter? 2nd card is screwy or pcix16 slot is screwed up? wrong settings?

Yeh well support centres can be awful...

Have you tried it with just the other card in as well, taking out the one that it worked with?
And I wouldn't imagine the pci-x slot being damaged otherwise you wouldn't be able to boot properly.

 

Comp might be overheating... Thats what mine did, untill i fixed the cooling situation.

 

Bf2 is one of the most screwed up modern games to be released,I'm not even bothering playing it until the 1.3 patch is released,this will be a huge patch and should fix all the restart and crash problems people are having,if your not having probs in any other games,its BF2 thats your problem

 

Ok im about to try the 2nd card alone then switch their slots together. I would have done it earlier but ive been busy. BTW does bf2 stop responding sometimes when you guys are trying to login to the authentication server?

 

As lame as this sounds, did you switch the PCI chip on the Mobo to utilize SLI functionality?

Yes i switched the chip around so dual is facing the cpu like it should. Ok ive mixed and matched these cards so lets call card 1 X and card 2 Y. X alone and Y alone works fine. X and Y together will crash the games and Y and X will crash them. The comp runs fine in windows but as soon as i load a map in bf2 or barely start up WoW it just shuts down. Drivers are updated. Ive even switched the sli connector back and forth to see if thats the problem. Cpu isnt over heating or the gpus. Right after it shutsodwn ill start it abck up and check the temps

Also I do have the 4 pin power connector plugged in for the 2 cards

 

I know it was a dumb question, but sometimes the obvious gets over looked. What drivers are you using? I heard nVidia released the 78.03's to correct an issue with their SLI cards.

im using 77.77 , i looked at the 78.01 and it said the only thing diffrent then 77.77 was something about the geforce 6600

man this is driving me nuts

 

With all the problems you are having, it wouldn't hurt to try them out.

I found the 78.03's on the Techpowerup.com website. You might have to scroll down a bit, but they are there, right on the main page.
