Hey, I am running a Dell Optiplex GX1 PC, With Windows XP Professional.

Everytime i boot up the pc 2 messages pop up saying,

    Plug and play configuration error
    Plug and play configuration error
    :(

And the display settings are all mesed up including colours, resolution etc...and usb devices won't work.

I've tried cleaning the nvram, disk checks, and updating diplay drivers (btw will not let me). :cry

Any help would be greatly appreciated. thanks

Well, I could be wrong here, but if it was me, I'd remove/install platform and vid drivers. Sounds like major driver issue to me.

Could be that several important Windows services have been disabled or corrupted. Have you tried a system restore to a date right before the problem happened? A safe reload of XP 'over the top' should fix it as a possible solution. Here's a link to a .pdf download that explains what many of the Windows services are and if they can be safely disabled or not...

The web site the link takes you to will require free registration w/ a valid email address... you can access your services by clicking start>run and type msconfig and click OK or just hit enter.... good luck!

Thanks for your help, Managed to fix it just by re-installing the usb 2.0 ports.
