Big Problem with Computer

First of all I have a Sony Vaio pCV-RS420. PIV 2.8ghz--ati radeon 9800XT-1gb of PC-3200 ram---Soundblaster ZS and 120gb. I started to hear this strange noise from my computer recently. I didnt think anything of it until when I play games like Lineage2 and get a error saying GPU recover. When I decided to open up my case to hear where the noise coming from, its coming form the 9800XT fan. I see the fan moving but making a loud noise and making the video card very hot. when I went to go check the temp it was 91 degress. What Should I do?

 

sounds like your fan is going out. You will have to buy a replacement gpu fan for your card. Try to google it or depends on where your located buyonline or a retailer (compusa maybe or newegg) I would definately not run it though due to the fan problem.

Is the card still under warranty? Bad fans are covered by warranty.

 

You could try a drop or 2 of 3 in 1 oil on the motor shaft of the fan. You can access it by peeling back the label or popping the plastic cover, then apply 1 or 2 drops to the shaft and let it soak into the bearing. If it is going to help, you will know as soon as you start it up. I have had a few that ran for several years after doing this. At the very least, it may buy you some time.
