Better check all connections, also check to see that Ram & video card are properly seated, even if they appear so R & R them.

When you power up does anything work? Fans?
When you replaced the MOBO Did you make sure the MOBO standoff were in the correct position? you might have a short/grounded MOBO.

What type HDD? when you post up/power on you may have to enter Bios & change some settings.
When replacing a MOBO with different brand/Chipset most of the time you will need to reinstall the OS

You might want to try removing everything except keyboard, video and 1 RAM module and see if it posts.

Does your psu have an ATX24V connector, or is it just 20pin? If its only 20 then you need a new psu.

Do you have a molex pluged into the X850?? Thow i think mine displays a warning msg like my 9800 pro did....Very odd how the CD-rom drives wont open and the hard drives wont spinup, but the fans work.... have your tryed dif molex plug on the hard drive? i know some PSUs have "fan only" molex plugs that only work with fans....

It sounds like you don't have everything plugged into the motherboard. You have the 20 pin connector and there is also a smaller connector. I believe it is 4 pin. That also has to be plugged into the motherboard.

    SORRY TO SHOUT BUT:

An Asus A8N-E needs a 24 Pin ATX power connection, plus a 4 Pin connection onto the motherboard for the processor. I assume you will also need to supply extra power to the PCI-E graphics card. If you are upgrading an older machine, I doubt your PSU has all the right connections.
