Hello everyone, I have had a problem for the past year with my computer not allowing me to install any new hardware because "another installation is underway." Unless this installation has lasted for a year, my computer has a problem.

I haven't been able to find any information about how to deal with this problem.

It appears that the computer keeps thinking that a hardware installation is constantly underway and I can't even get my pocket PC to be recognized or my new cell phone to be connected.

    HELP!

Go into Device Manager and see if there are any items with an exclamation or question mark, and make sure there is nothing listed that you don't have.

BTW, telling us what operating system it is may help.

    Sorry, it's Windows XP Pro.

I have noticed that the Ethernet card has a question mark by it and when I disable it, an exclamation mark shows up.

    What should I do now?

As far as the Ethernat card, did you get drivers with it, or better still, download and install the latest one from the manufacturer's website.

There should be no exclamation or question marks whatsoever in Device Manager, nor should you have things listed that you don't have.

Also, double-check the installed programs in Add/Remove and see if there is a program or application/s listed that you don't have to try and track down the culprit.

I'm actually not using the ethernet card now that I have a cable modem.

I already had updated drivers that were working when I was still using the ethernet card for DSL.

I have checked the Add/Remove programs segment also and it does not have any issues listed.

I tried disabling the ethernet card but without effect.

Edit: No effect after disabling and uninstalling the devices in question. This is really frustrating.

I use one of the USB ports for the mouse but I disconnected that as well to see if I could connect to my camera or phone but without effect. Any ideas?
