    Feedback time:
Did you actually read the original post at all?

kinda means the OP cannot boot into windows to uninstall anything!

cmoul6 ~ TimWs link has the info you need, most likely RAM, but as you have changed this for new, is the new ram of a compatible type, for your motherboard?

Do you overclock? if so set your cpu to default settings.

On re-installing XP did you clean install, by that I mean, delete the partition the OS is on and then re-create and re-format the HD, then continue with the install?

Also try another HD and install XP to that.

    A continious bios beep depending on the bios maker can relate to problems with the;

    Video Card or Memory
    Power Supply
    Motherboard
Keyboard < easyish one to test, try another keyboard, borrow a friends if you dont have a spare.

Check all of the connections inside your PC for a good fit, unplug and re-plug in is the best way to make sure hardware is connected correctly.

Most likely you will have to start swapping out all the hardware to find the culprit, not generally an easy task.

    hey thanks for the responses
yeah and i've seen that link that you gave me, TimW, that's what prompted me to buy new RAM. i'm not really too computer savvy but my brother is and as he's the original owner of the computer he went ahead and ordered it for me. so i'm assuming that he knows it's compatible with my mobo. i've already set the cpu to default..and overclocking isn't the problem.

the only thing that i haven't done is a clean install. i don't even know how to "delete the partition the OS is on" or to "re-create and reformat my HD"

i've also tried unplugging and replugging some things in the PC and everything seems to be fitting just fine.

more suggestions are greatly appreciated, thanks

    Hi

You could try plugging that hard drive into another PC as a slave and trying to see if you can recover any of your personal files, this will also double up a testing that HD to see if you can access it, maybe a faulting HD.

So you were overclocking? if so reason I mention this is OCing can stress components and one may have expired due to heat build up, BUT try to reset the bios, taking the motherboard battery out is the easiest way, just be careful and pop it out for say 10mins, then push back, enter the bios and check the date/time is correct and all your hardware as in drives are seen, save and exit.

But if you cannot access the drive and are not too worried about loosing the data and your files on the PC ( hope you had any important files backed up ) as a Clean Install will wipe the HD of all data, the instructions below are the clearest I have found to follow, with piccies too of the steps.

    thanks halo for your help
i wasn't overclocking, in case you were wondering so that was never a problem

i've tried to do a clean install but i only get through step 2
i can't get to this step:

    3. Welcome to Setup
Finally, Setup begins. In this step, you can set up XP, launch the Recovery Console (another, more complicated system recovery tool), or quit.
Press ENTER to continue Setup, and it will examine your hard drives and removable disks.

i can get to step 2, the MS-DOS portion of the setup, and it starts extracting files and acts as if it is about to begin installation. but i can't get past that. it just takes me directly to the BSOD

    that's where i'm stuck

actually i don't have the original windows XP home installation CD with me, so i borrowed a windows XP pro CD from a friend and figured it would still work. is this why i can't complete the clean install? because i have the wrong CD or does that matter?

okay well here's something else that might help. during the windows installation when it's extracting files or whatever, it kinda pauses on "FAT file system" then it will go to "Windows NT file system NTFS"...after that is when it stops the installation process and takes me to the BSOD

If you are doing a clean install ....completely reformated the hard drive, and are using the friends xp pro disc ...you should be able to install with her/his key ...however you won't be able to activate as that key has already been used to activate .....and no, you can't use the xp pro to do a repair to your xp home.

And what exactly is the BSOD error code with file?

i've already tried the xp home 6 boot disks, and everything went smoothly up until i enterted the final disk, it seemed as if everything was going okay, then it didn't allow me to insert the CD because it just takes me directly to the BSOD.
