Just upgraded my memory to 1 gigabite on both of my computers. Had success with the laptop but my desktop will not boot up. I have a power light but that's it. When I try to boot up the printer and everything comes on and the cdrom drive flashes. The boot up light flickers briefly.

Running Windows XP home edition, service pack 2 on a DELL 3000. I tried removing the new memory and putting the old back in but it still won't boot up. Any ideas? Thanks

Make sure that when you installed/uninstalled the ram ..you didn't jar any of the cables loose ....and let's hope there wasn't any static discharge.

I talked with DELL for quite some time last night and they came to the conclusion that I needed a new mother board and of course since the memory was not theirs my warantee was not any good and it would be at my expense. What should I do sack the computer or get it fixed? It's one of DELL's cheaper models so maybe I should think about getting a new one. In looking at the inside I tried to make sure all the connections were still connected. All kinds of connection that doesn't seem to go anywhere so I assume they are for updating the computer later but there is one socket that is empty and a wire that looks like it might fit. It is in such a difficult place that I cannot get to it well enough to try and put it in. I have a power light on the computer but that's it. The four lights on the back are not lit at all. Hey I noticed I got some more rank. I'm now a PFC. Does this mean I go back to being a private?

IMO, it wouldnt be worth it to buy a new mobo for one of Dell's cheaper models. It would probably be in your best interest to get a new one. If you're not into gaming or anything hardware intensive then i guess it wouldnt hurt to replace the mobo seeing as you wouldnt really NEED a new uber-fast computer.

The lights on the back are probably diagnostic lights ...will have to remember where that is on the dell site ....in the meantime, can you shoot us a picture of the insides (to see what wires you are talking about and the one that looks like it goes into a socket? )
