Bigfix is Great for those whom are not so computer savy.
Works for all windows OS's.
Besides offering windows OS updates, it recognizes or offers Office updates, antivirus and such, if I remember rite it even offered updates for Nero.
It will also recognize some incompatiblities between software/hardware and offer fixes for such.

As for being resourse hog, not really, if your someone who has big concern on resourses ya probably wouldnt be running it anyway.
When installing Big fix you have option to load on start up or manually, can also change once program is installed.

Bigfix comes with software bundle on some off the shelf PC's, I know on some Emachine's
I believe bigfix at one time was in close company to Microsoft
