    :confused

I think I am in the right forum to start a new thread? If not I hope someone will direct me properly. I don't like when I do something wrong rolleyes

    Question:

When is the proper or right time; or... when does it necessitate to update the bios (is this called - flash) or any firmware?

I just completed a fresh install of XP Pro, updated to SP3 and am having some complications with driver installs & updates, But that is being discussed on a different thread within this forum,
so no help required here for this latter statement!

Just a question of curiosity about the bios & firmware.

    Hi

A BIOS update is only required IF the BIOS update covers the issue you have, this could be CPU support to USB/Thermal Management support, but BIOS updates are limited in what they will fix.

A BIOS update is not to be taken lightly as if you mess it up then your motherboard is essentially dead, some motherboards have dual BIOS chips which take the stress out of flashing the BIOS but many dont.

    Thanks!

Points taken & seriously into consideration. "Stay away from bios upgrade" or else... :cry , especially for a newbie, like myself.

Thanks & have a wonderfully pleasant weekend.
