Bios forgets

    What happened to my BIOS ???

    One day it stopped working....
    would not load up....
    Thought it was the HD gone bad....
    used APRICORN adapter, and loaded full HD onto a used hd. same cap and make.....
    still no work ......
    got curious and looked at BIOS....... see below....

    Asus P4S8X-X rev 1.01
    Win XP SP2

    will not load past WIN sign on screen, checked Western digital drive (all ok),, Looking in Bios it seems it has forgotten all the drives, CD/DVD included. reset paramiters and save and exit, and in the black boot up screen it has forgotten the HD again. I have also installed a new CMOS battery.

    recent bios upgrade from 1004 to 1005
    (to see if upgrading BIOS would fix this, and it didn't change anything)

    message during bios upgrade:
    [BIOS information in file]
    bios version :p4S8X-X BOOT BLOCK

    though it allows the bios to upgrade.

    After upgrade and settings reset drive paramiters in Bios, reboot and... it can't find the HD at all, no WIN startup. As stated above WD HD diag checks "OK". shut off computer and restart ,,, and it lost the drives again in BIOS.

    Did you replace the button battery? If the battery is dead, the BIOS forgets all the changes, including the date that you have made every time you turn the computer off.

    just reset MB manf factory settings for the CMOS (on manf CD) and a fresh install of XP, and TADA all fixed.
