I originally posted this issue in the drivers forum, but it may be better served here. The problem is this:

I have a Gateway desktop computer that has a Gateway keyboard connected to the PS2 port. I have had some recent virus issues that seem to be resolved, but the keyboard will not fuction. The lights come on during boot, but they keyboad will not type any characters. The mouse is USB and seems to be working fine.

I installed a Microsoft wireless keyboard and mouse hoping to solve this issue, and this will not type either!!

    Please help.

Alright, an easy/painless thing to try (assuming you can log into Windows) would be to turn on the on-screen keyboard (Start --> All Programs --> Accessories --> Accessibility --> On-Screen Keyboard)

Then navigate to c:\windows\system32\drivers, locate kbdclass.sys and kbdhid.sys, and rename the files so that they have a .OLD file extension.

Wait a few minutes, and Windows File Protection will detect the files as missing, and replace them with versions from cache.

Once that is done, reboot the machine, and see if the drivers load, allowing the keyboard to work.

    No Joy.

I renamed the files and restarted after about 15 minutes. The new files were added as you anticipated, but the keyboards still do not. The new files that loaded say they were created on 3/16/2010 which is when the problem began I think.

I don't know if this is relevant or not, but the only light that is lit on the keyboard is the numbers lock button which will not go off if I push the numbers lock button. The web/home button, calculator, zoom and other functions on the USB/wireless keyboard function, but it also will not type.

I am also getting an iexplorer.exe error when closing web pages now.

"The instruction at "0x6beb7776" referenced memory at "0x6bfa1250". The memory could not be "read"."

Any relation to my current keyboard issue?

Thank you for the initial effort, and please keep the ideas flowing.
