BIOS on a Gateway

I have an old Gateway Select 1000 CS. I'm trying to get into the BIOS and I can't. It's an AMI BIOS, I think version 7.*. I've tried holding Del, F1, F2...none seem to work. I thought that the last time I got in there was a combo of buttons. Stupid thing doesn't give me the key during POST. Any ideas are appreciated. Thanks.

 

This may or may not help. I lost the bios on an old 400 gateway. I put a new battery on the mother board. I downloaded a bios upgrade from the gateway support center. To get this you will need the model number and serial and a specific sreen will come up with your machine listing upgrades. You can also look around the cite for generic bios upgrades for your machine. Follow the instuctions on how to load it in and it should cure the problem hopefully other wise find a new chip.

 

I don't mean to state the obvious here, but...are you repeatedly hitting the F1, or F2 key until it finally takes??

In order to enter the bios on gateway computers, you are supposed to hit the F1, or F2 key repeatedly for 1 second intervals until it takes!!

I have an older gateway, and it uses F2, just after the first beep.

Have you tried a different keyboard? Just possible that key is not working.
