Hey guys.. I got a little problem I am updating my GF rigs hardware and i got a freebee off a friend that works at a computer store... Its a radeon 9250 128mb DDR, She has an Gateway But with some added hardware.. Motherboard is Intel Rexburg D845GRG I was looking around on differnt forums, trying to figure out why its not reading the video card and came upon someone saying updateing the BIOS might fix the problem only thing is i know if i mess it up itll turn the computer into a nice paper weight. Which I tried but it wouldnt update them.

    So there lies my problem.....

What the video card does is.

She usues the on board video card and when i plug the radeon in and switch the cards the monitor stays blank which i put the cord on the mother board video card its still blank but when i take the radeon out and keep the cord pluged into the mother board it works fine????!

I am just woundering if i do need to update the BIOS or maybe try somthing eles.

I have switch the setting to AGP but its a nogo

Are you sure your "freebie" video card even works?

You may have tried this but here ya go
turn all power off and unplug -make sure you are grounded
    Install the video card
boot pc w/ onboard graphics card
Pc should see new hardware and ask to install some basic drivers
You may need extra drivers from the manufacturer-check there
Once you install all the drivers power down a
change vga setting in bios to run from the 9250
you may have to change appropriate graphics card memory to 128 in bios
save and exit bios -power down- switch cables
reboot w/ monitor attached to the 9250---hopefully you now have a new working card...

I changed to VGA and are you talking about the MB and KB settings?

I am confused what step are you at?
All settings are done in the Bios
same steps as you used before just make sure you get the drivers for your card first and installed before attempting to boot from it.

When i go to install the drivers (video card is not plugged in because i cant use the monitor when it is) It says cannot find hardware.

When i put the Radeon in the montior wont work, then when i plug it into the on board video (radeon still plugged in) it still wont work But when i take the radeon out it works just fine

Ahh darn that dell I forgot how picky they can be .......
This may work for you ( many thanks to the merlin)

Here are the steps to installing your new video card:
1)Make sure that you bought the PCI version of the 9250, before opening the box.
2)Go into your BIOS, and set your onboard video to use the least amount of RAM that you can set it to be.
3)Boot to Windows, and right-click on My Computer, then select Properties, and then the Hardware tab, and then Device Manager.
4)Once inside of Device Manager, click on the little plus sign (+) that's next to Display Adapters.
5)Right-click on everything that's under (inside of) Display Adapters, and select Disable. DO NOT SELECT UNINSTALL!
6)When Windows tells you that you're gonna have to reboot your computer, tell it you're gonna do it later, then shut the computer down.
7)Install PCI ATI 9250 into a vacant PCI slot.
8)Hook everything back up, and turn on your computer.
9)As soon as you get to Windows, Windows will try to force you to tell it where the driver for your video card is located. Tell Windows to shut up, and go here: http://support.amd.com/us/kbarticles/Pages/737-26590HowdoIfindtheDriverformyProduct.aspx
10)Download Microsoft.net first, then download the disply driver only, then close the page.
11)Install Microsoft.net first, as it's required, then install your video drivers, and enjoy.

    try that --..

Yup Dell can be extremely picky and sometimes just refuise to work.
That pretty much depletes my knowledge of dell workarounds but there may just be a point where you wave a white flag and get another card...( do not get me wrong dells are great for the non gamming avg user)
Definitely wait around as another somebody may pick up this thread and have a solution( we live in many different time zones)
