    Scenario in brief:

Laptop died, all battery power gone, all parameters reset, factory defaults restored. Now presented with password before Bios kicks in. Don't know what this is, don't care...
I have loads of music on HD, need to get it off.
I have revoved HD from laptop, password still kicks in...

Can I either: network HD or laptop to another terminal and use as external drive, or buy a new laptop and put existing HD in to retrieve music..?

I'm getting really desperate - Please somebody "hi" and indeed "yelp"...

    ta!

P.S. Dear Bold Eagle, tried all the help on http://www.langa.com/newsletters/2006/2006-02-16.htm#2 didn't work... know any more?

What BIOS is it running? There are "backdoor" passwords that can get you in - sometimes.

Most of the time though you can reset the BIOS password to nothing by actually removing the CMOS battery. Then after a short time put it back (preferably a working one!!). :)

You can install a laptop hard drive in a desktop PC by buying a Notebook adapter cable. They are fairly cheap, instead of buying a new laptop. Bazza
