I just tried upgrading BIOS, and when it restarted it popped up with "enter CURRENT password". I've heard of backdoor passwords, but i tried some for AMI, phoenix, etc., and none have worked. Is there some way to get my password (or any working password), or maybe reset bios so my computer can boot up?

I had this problem and successfully used the freeware tool called CmosPwd 4.8. That tool decrypts the password stored in cmos used to access BIOS Setup.

The program is available as a freeware download here at Major Geeks in the BIOS files section.

You can also find out more about this tiny tool by Googling the exact terms: CmosPwd - CGSecurity and then choosing the first search result, which is a wiki page (written by the CmosPwd developer Christophe Grenier) describing the utility. This wiki page also lists the various BIOS types that CmosPwd will work with. ;)

    Good Luck

Whew..... I removed the battery for a few minutes, and put the jumper in the reset position. I left the jumper and put the battery back in. I was able to go to the bios menu, and removed all passwords, then set the jumper back.
    Thanks for the help

This is typically the more forceful approach, but just make sure ye set the bios up to what ye need to have a functioning computer with. ;)

Re: BIOS password Dell Studio 1735

I need to open a Dell Studio 1735, and so far nothing is working, I have done all the basics, removed the battery, for 3 days, I finally removed the main board to find CMOS, and so far can not find what I need to, has anyone ever worked on one of these? The owner of the Laptop has tried all types of Fake unlock programs, and wasted several $100.00, it has been a paper weight for the last 8 months, I want to be able to help him, I am not charging for the work I am doing for him. I have had others tell me things that will not work on this model, like use a boot disk, it has no floppy and since it is locked it will not read the CD drive, I can not find the CMOS chip, or a reset jumper setting, I have looked at both sides of the main board. And found nothing that even comes close to being able to reset. All Dell wants to do is to sell a extended service contract, I keep getting Dell laptops to rebuild, personally I got rid of all my Dell Junk. Anyone have a idea to help please let me know. How does one run a program like this on a laptop that will not let you past the Bios password, for that matter it has no floppy, and will not read a CD/DVD, in my mind it is a waist of time, the owner of the laptop has spent around $250. on programs that don't work. J

  7. jacer67401, head over to Dell Forums and ask this. Not sure you can bypass-reset the password for a laptop with jumpers. I have worked on a few Dell laptop and don't remember any jumpers. IF..BIG IF...The owner is the ORIGINAL BUYER of the laptop Call dell and BUG THE HELL OUT OF THEM for the master password. Don't take any BS, they have one!! I bought one from Ebay that was password protected and It took me three days of calling or about 6 hrs phone time to FINALY get to someone that would give me the master password!

Thanks guys, I called and after 10 days got to a Supervisor and got it. I had to answer more questions than I thought I should have too, but I also have the guys direct phone number, so next time a Dell is brought to me to fix, I can call and bypass the BS. I did find out that there are 3 e prom chips, and it can not be bypassed, new homeland security crap, with computrace. I was told I could remove and replace the chips, but I am was not about to try that and damage the board, So thanks aging, It is up and working like the day it was made.:)

  9. Homeland security? Huh?WHO"s computer do you have?!?!:major That's a new one on me!
