I have a Hp pavilion Dv4000 and my brother put a power on password. He can't remember the password or he spelt it wrong. I can't find a solution to reset the CMOS password. I tried removing the battery/draining the battery... etc. No Luck!

I even tried unlock6.. its quite old so it doesn't work.

The system disabled code is 12572.

I contacted Hp and they said it costs $298 and my computer is not worth that much itself.

Can someone help me with this matter??

The cmos battery is wrapped in a blue wrapper underneath the network card that i took out.

The battery should not be wrapped in anything, it should be silver.

If you can access the battery then you can access the jumpers.

The one in my laptop is the BLUE ONE. I did take it out a few times and no.. Whenever i boot my laptop i get a screen that says enter password.

after 3 tries.. i get an error code 12572. I did run the unlock6 but those codes won't work. :-o
