Bios Password

Hi all.

I'm a newbie so i have no idea how this place works yet. If I've posted this thread in the wrong section, could a mod please move it to the correct location.


I have an HP EliteBook 830 G8 which has a BIOS password.

Unfortunately, I don't know the password as the previous owner forgot it/can't tell me/swears blind they didn't set a BIOS password.

The laptop boots up and everything works just fine. The only time that the BIOS password has become an issue is now, as I'm trying to update the BIOS.

I've read that taking out the CMOS battery can reset the BIOS Password. That's a non-starter.

I wouldn't trust myself to hold a screwdriver, never mind opening up a laptop and unscrewing stuff.

A piece of software that could reset the BIOS password would be ideal.

If I can't find a solution, I'll end up having to sell my laptop and purchase a replacement. For obvious reasons, I don't want to go down that path.

 

And if someone doles out a solution (which doesn't involve me opening up and subsequently breaking my laptop) I'll happily donate a cup of coffee.

 

Unfortunately there is no other way to reset bios password its either the battery pull or a jumper on the motherboard.

I used this on my old Dell Inspiron i7 laptop in about 2014 after a so called "friend" changed the password as a joke and when I discovered this, the said "friend" was overseas and he had forgotten all about the random password DOH!!!
Dogbert's fix worked really well so thanks Dogbert. I ended up resetting the password after updating the BIOS and then changing the original HDD to an old SSD and the laptop is still in use in my shed running 24/7 as a music streamer into some big logitech speakers and a sub........it is mostly tuned in to Asterisk Radio San Diego or sometimes Rock 104 Topeka lol

Yeah. I had an HP chat and the person said that they used to help people who have a BIOS password problem, but they don't anymore. I didn't pay attention to the reason why.

They billed me £426 for a replacement motherboard.

Instead of sending over an engineer to pop out the CMOS for a few minutes, and not adding anything to a landfill, they charge me over £400 for a new motherboard.

That's nice of them.
