I my family we have four Fujitsu-Siemens S-series laptops, and love them.

However, two of them, both S 5582, was sold by a refurberishing company that didn't mention that the BIOS were locked with three passwords. They are set up so that I cannot boot from anything but disk C: - and if I happen to remove the hard drive, the entire computer locks, and can only be brought back by someone knowing the password.

The alternative, removing the BIOS battery for a short time, is said to be in practical terms impossible without special tools. The price Fujitsu-Siemens ask where I live is close to getting another laptop the same age/type, so that's really no option.

I know there exist software to find and/or clear these passwords - but they all seems to exclude WIN2000.

I'll just add that these are perfectly legally resold laptops.

    Any ideas?

Most of the software that you are talking about will work on W2000 if it works for XP.

And if you really are feeling brave look here

Thank you for replying. Yes, I find many programs that say they will work on W2000 & XP. But it looks like when things are happening, they rely on either DOS or possibly LINUX.

The solution for W2000 is to boot from a diskette or a CD - and this is really not a solution for me, as it will lock up the computer.

by the way taking the battery out to that the bios "forgets" the passwords, may not work in your lap top. as most laptops incidently have there bios stored on a flash drive near by.

I have had this problem before at work and i cannot get you ther website, but if your join certain wires togeather on a parallel cable then plug it in. It will fry the bios chip that stores your passwords.

This is safe and does work. but this will mean that you will never be able to store bios passwords on your computer again.

If you are looking for a software way to do this, all motherboard have a master passwords that the motherboard manufacture creates.

If you have a look around on the internet and ask certain questions you should be able to find this master password. Its not a great seacret the master password to your motherboard as all technitians use them.

But they just rather that you didnt know.

    Good luck anyway.

No, the 6010 is pre- that; however, they have hidden the CMOS battery so that you need special tools. This is one of the laptops used by for instance CERN, for banking etc.

    No Parallel port.

None of the passwords floating around seems to work on this one; and pretty many of these sites seems to be dubious and potentially dangerous; or at least my Kerio firewall think so.

So, the laptop will probably end its life as spares.
