Is it really necessary to update your bios every so often.

I just updated mine an hour ago to day is the latest bios for my HP 4/28/16.

Not really sure what the update detail was but the install went smooth no issue at all.

I've owned 14 computers over several decades. I've updated the BIOS exactly twice. Both times to solve problems. The first time, I was told to do so by the manufacturer. The 2nd time was to solve a major problem.
So no, unless you are having a problem AND can read a text file to see exactly what the updated BIOS does, don't update. The advice is the same for drivers.

People break more things attempting to update things that don't need updates.
