I just bought a Western Digital 40 gig HD to replace the current one so I can install Windows XP and upgrade my AOL and other software. I would like to know if there's any way to check the BIOS, before I try to install the drive, to see if it will accept and recognize the entire drive. Thanks.

Hold a key as you restart, as a guaranteed manner of getting it to bring up BIOS, it's possible to hit delete, but if you're timing is off, this is fool proof. Just enter setup when it asks.

It should recognize the whole drive. I'm running an 80gigger on an old Gateway PII450, had a 120gig on there at one time. You will need more RAM ( System Memory ) to run Windose XP though. 128megs is just not gonna cut it.
