I'm not sure if this is the right forum but it does have to do with a possible BIOS error.

About every second or third time I start my computer in the morning I get an
error message during boot up. The message reads: Hardware Monitor found an
Error. Enter Power Setup menu for details. When I enter the Bios setup and
look at the Power Tab, I don't see anything set wrong. I exit out of the
Bios setup and continue with the bootup process and the computer usually
starts Windows. Can someone tell me if I need to change anything in my
current Power settings. Thanks, Mac PS: Sorry for the long post.

    BIOS - POWER TAB

Power Up on PCI Card Disabled

    Wake On Lan Disabled

Power On By PS/2 Keyboard Disabled

    Automatic Power Up Disabled

    SUB MENU FOR HARDWARE MONITOR

    Q-Fan Function Disabled

    MB Temp 25 C / 77 F

    CPU Temp 33 C / 91 F

Power Temp N/A (*This is ghosted out)

    CPU Fan Speed 2445 RPM

    Chasses Fan Speed 2228 RPM

Power Fan Speed Disabled (*See note #1)

    VCore Voltage 1.52v

    3.3v Voltage 3.26.v

    .5v Voltage 4.99v

    12v Voltage 11.8v

*Note #1: The Power Fan Speed has always started out slow (in the red) and
would take about a minute to get up into the "normal" RPM range. Once it
warmed up it would stay in the normal RPM range until I turned the computer
off. I "Disabled" this monitor thinking that this was what was causing the
bootup error message but Disabling this monitor did not help the problem.
The Power Temp monitor has always been Ghosted Out. Doesn't matter if Power
Fan Speed monitor is on or disabled.

Not really sure, other then the fan isnt spinning at the time of the error message, or some voltage isnt being read correctly.

If your not experiencing any problems, id say its ok.
    Try updating your BIOS.

Did you disable both the power fan and cpu fan warnings? Either one could trip a warning at startup if they don't spool up fast enough.

If disabling them DOES cure the problem, see if you can find some slow setting that won't trip the alarm. It's useful to know if either of them stop, immediately, before things start overheating.

    Couple Few things:
Power fan is amps or voltage within range of what board supports, header on mobo have limited amount of power to provide, if not within limits youll burn out the header!
    Bad fan???
    ? Reset board reconfigure bios!
Is that an Asus mobo? what is fan threshold speed ? or What mobo do you have, brand and model please?
As chrisC posted try bios update if is the latest already go to previous version.

Here's the information on my computer. I'm not sure if the power fan voltage is within range of what board supports. I suspect the power fan was somewhat defective from the beginning because it always started out in the red and took a minute or so for RPM's to climb into black range. I will look for updated bios as suggested. Is the Power Temp monitor supposed to be ghosted out? I can't figure out how to turn it on. I'll try the bios update and repost. Thanks for the suggestions. Got the latest BIOS update form ASUS. I've never updated a BIOS before and realized I really don't know what I'm doing. I printed out the instructions on AFLASH BIOS proceedure and it doesn't sound too difficult. One thing I'm not sure of is that they want you to copy the AFLASH.exe to a clean boot disk that has autoexec.bat and config.sys on it. I'm running WinXPHome and when I try to make a DOS boot disk I notice that neither of those two files are on there. I was going to make the disk by booting to DOS and using the "C:\> format A:/S" command but noticed that there is no Boot To DOS option in WinXP. Is there another way of making this boot disk with autoexec.bat and config.sys on it so I can copy AFLASH.exe to it? I'm a novice at this type of thing and feel a little lost. Thanks, Mack

First make DOUBLE sure you have the correct BIOS version for your motherboard type. If you flash it with the wrong bios you can severely screw up the system.

You can download a basic boot disk (with no drivers or any other programs on it) from www.bootdisk.com and select the 5th option down - DrDos7.x Disk For Bios Flashing Basic. This will save an .exe file to your system, which you can run - dont forget to insert a blank, formatted floppy into drive A: before you run.

The direct link to download the file is:
    http://ftp.sanguine.jp/pub/sahughes/utils/dos/drdflash.exe

Once you have formatted the floppy and run the above program, you can then copy the BIOS flash program .exe to the floppy.

Reboot your system with the floppy in the drive, and when it comes up to your prompt, run the bios flash executable and follow the prompts.
MAKE SURE YOUR SYSTEM IS SECURELY PLUGGED IN to a power source and do not unplug it during the BIOS flash.

    Good luck.
