I have just run an Everst scan and it says that i need to update my Bios as it is over 2yrs old, I tried to download update from the site that Everest showed but it wanted me to pay $29.99 for a subscription, is there a free tool/software that will update my bios for me??? any advice greatly appreciated.

Yes, as r1ch1e is leading towards the motherboard manufacturer will have updates for their boards listed by model number. Or if it is a store bought computer (Dell, HP etc.) the manufacturer will include BIOS updates along with driver updates by PC model number.

One note is that just because your BIOS is over two years old may not be a reason to update it. In general, the rule is, if it isn't broken don't fix it. Most times BIOS updates go fine but occasionally they cause problems and going backwards is not always a simple process.

Once you find the site that lists your BIOS updates, it is worth reading through the version history to see if any of the fixes/enhancements are something you need. Many times they are specific to certain processors or communication cards etc. that may not be applicable to your setup so they can be skipped. If you do choose to update then going with the most recent is usually advised.

Is it an Advent notebook? Do you have a model number from the tag on the bottom?

I, personally, wouldn't worry about an update but I'll look to see if one is available. (If it is an Advent notebook then it is a bit more difficult to find updates because they have poor support)

CPU-Z shows you the BIOS version in the motherboard tab.

As said before, if you haven't got any problems, then don't update, it's not like AV where regular updates are crucial to the security of the PC.

Make sure you read a few guides on how to if you decide to go ahead, failing to do so may result in a dead board.

If thats the only reason you want to update your bios
    Dont......

Unless your PC is having some issues. updating the BIOS will do nothing.
    Bios updates solve specific issues

A failed bios update can screw your PC

    Good Luck...

Thanks to ALL who have advised me, I have decided t forget about the Bios Update due to the comments/advice given, and seems that i don't have any prob's it deems it uneccessary!!! plus I would probably do something wrong and end up with a dead machine.

sach2... my machine IS an Advant board!!! so would probably have problems getting an update due to their lack of support.

    Thanks Again.
