Hi, my pc won't boot up and it does not post.
    Specs:
    AMD Opteron 165 S939 *1 yr old*
    1GB Corsair ddr400 *1 yr old*
Asus A8N-E Motherboard *1 yr old*
Antec Truepower Trio 650W PSU *new*

So, one day I went to power on the PC, and nothing happened, so I figured it was a PSU issue, I got the tester and it turned out true (the old PSU was a Antec smartpower v2 500w which was also 1 yr old), so I bought an Antec Truepower Trio 650W.

So I Install this PSU, go to boot up and it powers up fine, but now the bios won't post up (this system has never been overclocked or anything, and the CPU is cooled by stock cooling).

All the fans go on, the hard drive goes on, everything is on but I can't get it to post up. (I've built several computers in my day,and last time I had a similar problem it turned out to be a faulty mobo)

I'm wondering what can be the problem, possibly the mobo, cpu, or ram. I tested the new PSU with the handy tester and it reads fine.

    Please offer any help.
    TIA
    -BB

I should add the power light doesn't go on either when i go to power it up.

I've had a motherboard go bad before, and it was practically the same thing, although I don't quite remember the other mobos symptoms because it was over 3 years ago.

Also, I removed the video card, same problem, and I removed the ram with it, same problem. I just don't want to buy a motherboard and have it turn out to be the CPU or something else.

Have you tried a reset of the CMOS using the Jumper ???

    Yes, that didn't work either.

Did you try removing the cmos battery and wait a minute and reinstall the battery?
If you didn't, Try that it will reset you bios settings to it default setting.

There is one other thing i can suggest, You said you removed your video card do you have another card you could put in your machine, Recently i had a radeon x1300 pro agp go bad in my old computer (I now have a hp pavillion i tempary went back to my old system (A Gateway because i have one game that wouldn't install on media center 2005) i tried every thing else i could think of to get my old machine to post but nothing else worked, So i removed my video card and put in an older geforce fx 5700le and it booted fine.

When you say No Post what exactly are you seeing ie. just a blank/black screen etc. ??? Does it appear to boot as you said you could hear HD working, if as you say everything else is working this could be a video card prob or bad connection to screen, as cheater says try another vid card or try another PCI slot.

Are there any beeps? If the system speaker works, there should be some beeps at least when you pulled the memory. No beeps when you pull the RAM point to either bad mobo or cpu.

Just had the very same prob on me knock-around-rig.. I corrected by checking the Power lead to the HD, I was inside case doing something else and had knocked and dislodged slightly. These 4 wire connectors are the pits.

I removed the battery didn't work.

When I hit the power switch, the monitor doesn't detect any connection, there are no post beeps, and the power LED doesn't go on, but the HD LED blinks once, but all the components are fired on and running.

When I pull the ram there are still no beeps and no power led.

I tried replacing the 6600gt in this pc with my 8800gts, and same problem. I also replaced the ram with a spare 256mb stick I had, but same problem.

So I got a new mobo (MSI... something S939), and I went to turn it on, and the monitor still doesn't detect any connection, and there are no post beeps.

Pretty much same thing, except now the power LED works, I'm thinking the only thing left is the CPU?

    Any ideas?

Yes, the motherboard was indeed bad, and the MSI neo4 or w/e isn't.

The dimm module had one of the pins ripped off or something, and I think that was the problem. I tested other ddr and it worked fine, then I ultimately got 1gb dual channel to replace it :cool

    So ultimately
    1) PSU Blew, and took motherboard with it?
    2) I was careless and my dimm module broke.
    3) MSI k8n neo4 is a better mobo anyway ;)
