    Hello
My system information says my BIOS is A11 and Dell has an A13.
Is it correct to update and if so is it just a click of the download tab?
I am checking to see if there are any precautions to take as I have heard of "Flash" and other troubles .
    Thank you

    Hi Peter

Personally if your PC is working fine do not attempt a BIOS update, the updates in the main are to fix issues that some maybe having as well as updates for newer CPUs etc

Flashing a BIOS and say accidentally the power goes off and a laptop could be prone to this then the flash is not completed fully it is likely that the PC will not boot and will need an RMA (having said that in some cases the OEM may charge you as it was your option to install this BIOS)

The Rule I was told about updating the bios is DON'T unless it is a vital fix to a current issue you are experiencing..... if it aint broken why fix it .... was what i was told!!!!! ;)

diidn't see you lurking there David !!!

I almost pulled the trigger at the site then thought,"I think I had better be a pest again with my good 'ole MG forum, than take a chance!"
Thank goodness and thank you for the help.
Perhaps I can give you all a rest now.
    Good weekend to you.

I've owned 13 computers thus far. I updated only two BIOSes. One was at the insistence of the manufacturer (HP) and the other was to solve a problem where the laptop screen went black while trying to install windows 2000 (micron).
Do not touch the BIOS unless the manufacturer tells you it needs to be updated or your computer has a problem. If the computer has a problem, before you tinker with the BIOS, read the release notes to see what the new BIOS does. If you don't see your problem in the release notes, do not update.

    Hello
I am convinced that the BIOS should not be used unless the manufacturer recommends it, or some warranted issue arises and then done only with proper supervision.
    Thank you

:clap Spread the word Peter. They'd be a lot less cries for help from people who tried BIOS updates that didn't work.

    >>We have all been impulsive but the old adages persist b/c they are factual; look before you leap/think twice before clicking once etc ad nausea.
So I hope, as you do, that many others will read this and not be tempted to fiddle with the bios or anything they are not familiar with.
After all, this is why MGS is here. I over use this forum but it has been a wealth of information for me as I knew zero about pc at the age of 58 some 13 years ago. I have folders in my pc filled with ideas I picked up here.
I have also met some friends here who still offer up substantial advice.
I hope this forum continues to provide the courteous, skilled advce it has over the years.
I wish I had the skill to contribute but perhaps others reading questions will learn that way.
Thank you for your continued support
