I hope I'm placing this thread in it's rightful place.

I have a small BIOS (MegAmerican atrends) annoyance. After I installed Plextor PX-708A dvd writer my BIOS is taking longer than usual to go through the paces. At the end of the boot it hangs for about 10 secs with a massage at the bottom ...searching for boot record from CDROM.. it is then continues normaly with the booting process.

Is there a way (through the bios perhaps?) to fix this rather small annoyance?

As usual, thanks in advance to all replies,
    aKa

some bios issues when installing can be fixed usually by clearing CMOS/Bios basically it sets the bios back to default.... you can either do this from a jumper on the mobo or removing the bios battery for a minute or two.

My mobo is an MSI KT4 Ultra. I have no idea on how to remove the bios battery.

    Can you help?

If you have manual for your MOBO it should have detailed info there.
If not download manual from MSI web site.

The battery is easy to recognize looks like watch battery.

It just takes a while for your comp to check the DVD drive for boot files. I don't believe resetting the BIOS is necessary, nor even helpful in your case. Most BIOS nowadays default to having the boot order as Floppy/CD/HD, so resetting it won't change this. All you really need to do is to go into the BIOS & either remove the CD/DVD from the boot sequence, or at least change it to look at the floppy & HD first, and only boot from CD/DVD as a last resort. If at a later time you need to boot from CD/DVD, you can always change it back.

Agree with Wavetar. Most BIOS's have various options. Select to boot from Hard drive first, then FD, or CD, whichever you like. PC will then boot from hard drive first. Mine even has an option of which hard drive to boot from first. Check your BIOS out and experiment but make sure you have a bootable floppy and/or bootable CD in case. Bazza

And that I did, check the BIOS that is and sure nuf, my boot order was CDROM then HDD then floppy which I don't have installed. I switched between the CDROM and the HDD and the annoyance's gone.

    Thank you both,

Glad Wavetar and I could be of assistance. Another victory to MG over pesky computers. Bazza
