So it's xmas time and i wanted to upgrade my computer some (normally do around xmas / bday) so i went to newgg.com and ordered the biostar tf570 sli motherboard (have had good luck with biostar motherboards in the past) also ordered the 65w "energy efficient" amd 5200+ processor (128+128 / 2x 1mb l2 cache) and 2 gigs of ocz ddr2 800 gaming ram. I get it all in the mail am super excited, start putting everything together... to find out that i need a 4 - 8 pin p4 adapter... so i order that... wait 4 more days, get that in the mail and am even more excited (anticipation has built more) so i put in my adapter and i try to power up, the only lights i get though are not from the power button... they are the led's on the motherboard, there are 4 leds on the motherboard and the 2 that are suppose to come on dont, i check the manual says "off = abnormal: cpu / chipset error" so i wanted to see if any of you could help me, other than that stuff i am running a 430w power supply and a gforce 7300gt vid card. Now before i rma to newegg i want to find out what you all thought it could be. worst comes to worst i can rma ... but will have to wait like 2 weeks, so if anyone has any opinions / suggestions / things to try please let me know. maybe i am missing something small or not realizing something or w/e.

I've been looking around at the BioStar site (the USA site has no info; went to Taiwan) and found out nothing really :( There is a BIOS update dated Nov 23 2007 that adds support for some 5000 series CPUs (primarily the 5000+ I think) so this might be the issue. Also, make sure your RAM sticks are non-ECC and unregistered DIMMs. You can probably check it at the OCZ site. Your RAM is not on the approved and verified compatible list, but few brands are, and of the ones listed, I haven't heard of 90% of them. That's Taiwan for you. ;) If you have access to another video card (even an old PCI card) and/or maybe another power supply, try them out. Make sure your BIOS jumper is in the correct position (maybe pop out the battery for like an hour, then replace it and try again), and make sure your CPU and heat sink are properly installed. If you have access to another CPU or another AM2 motherboard, you can check all your components, but most people simply do not have a tech bench full of replacement motherboards, and CPU's and different RAM and PSU's..... I know this isn't the most helpful info, but it's something
Anyway, I wish you the best of luck, and if I come across something helpful, I'll be sure to post it ASAP.

And have a great holiday season ;) :wine

BTW- on the whole, I've had pretty good results from BioStar motherboards also.....

first off make sure all plugs are in tight. second try clearing cmos (sounds dumb on a new board but I've seen it solve the issue before) by removing battery , and if that fails, remove board from case and set on a non conductive surface, take all parts out except processor and ram and see if you get a post beep. if not remove the ram see if you get a no ram error beep. if still nothing then either the board or processor is toast.
P.S. the reason for removing board from case is incase a standoff in the wrong place is shorting the board

ibbonkers offers some great advice. I assumed this had already been done. Whenever I replace my motherboard (I've only done it twice in my personal home PC) I always build it outside the case first to make sure it powers up and that all is well so I don't waste all that time installing it in the case, just to have to remove it if things don't go right.....

thanks for all the good advice guys, i'll give those things a try but honestly, im thinking i was just that unlucky customer from newegg that got a dead board and or processor. I may just rma them both and have newegg send me new ones.

I would narrow it down first to make sure. If it's just a stand off in the wrong spot for example you may put the new board and chip in and have the same problem. Just my humble opinion .
