I should have put this in the Lounge rather than the Software section. I'm asking if you have an opinion on it.

With the bad publicity lately, I expect them to devalue to nothing soon.

Has value until everyone agree's it doesn't have value.

If I were a criminal buying or selling something, wanted to avoid tax or had an excess of easy money that needed quietly moving I'd use it and accept the risk, but I'm not so I don't.

I don't really have any other opinion on it.:confused Oh yeah if the Governments of the world start losing money, power or control, everyone making money in the bitcoin business will be shot.:-D

It is also a very risky currency. One day you have it, the next day the feds are freezing and seizing ;)

That's the crux at the present, its too volatile a currency for the institutions to really invest in it and the security aspect is a nightmare as no real ownership traceability exists, which is why criminal gangs can get away with stealing them.

MtGox problems at present highlight the ownership issue and the owner of the exchange is talking to two parties at present, kinda guess what type of parties they are!

One future issue is as there is no regulation of electronic currency and quite a few alternatives are around now, is that when more mainstream there will be hundreds of different ones and the value of all will end up low to the high value they command now.

I think bitcoins on the side of playing with penny stocks on the stock market.

Obviously that was meant to say "I don't have ANY opinion of it."
