BitDefender Vs. Spyware Doctor: False Positive

I am running BitDefender and Spyware Doctor free versions on a PC running Windows XP.

I found that BitDefender was not updating, so I ran the "repair" option in add/remove programs, only to find that Spyware Doctor was erasing the update programs as fast as I could repair it.

Spyware Doctor said the following were malware:
c:\program files\ditbefender\zlib.dll (vsserv.exe)
c:\program files\common files\softwin\bitdefender update service\zlib.dll (livesrv.exe)

In the end, I had to uninstall Spyware Doctor because it just would not allow me to put vsserv.exe or livesrv.exe in an "ignore" list.

I also run PC Tools Threatfire, and it also did not like vsserv.exe or livesrv.exe, but I managed to get Threatfire to ignore these two "trojans".

I am wondering whether Spyware Doctor will sooner or later recognize this as a false positive, and how I am going to find out when that will be if I am not actually running or updating Spyware Doctor anymore (would prefer to be running Spyware Doctor as well, but while there is this conflict with Bitdefender, it can't happen). :confused

 

Since Spyware Doctor and ThreatFire are both from PCTools, it doesn't surprise me that they both flag the same files. You can try to contact PCTools tech support and see if they can help. I wouldn't hold my breath however. You might want to look into some other protection. Spyware Doctor is a paid program; if you don't mind paying, MalwareBytes and SUPER Antispyware are both excellent programs with real time active protection in the paid versions.
