Bitlocker

I am trying to sort out his computer , but cannot access it due to using bitlocker.

I have the key and also the recovery key .

On starting up i can put the key in ok and then its start the recovery part and asks for the recovery key , which i am starting to put in , the trouble is half way through the key are characters ie b or c or d .I cannot see how to put the c or d keys as it doesnt respond to normal keys on the keyboard .

If ihave to format can i just scrub the operating system and bitlocker with it and set it up as normal ,

NB this is very urgent as he is going back to spain on monday to live and i am in the UK
