When converting a WMA file to MP3's I have the option of changing the bitrate on the file. What is the bitrate and what number should I use? I don't have a clue what bitrate is or what it does. Thanks in advance.

Most people perfer a bit rate of 128 or higher. Bitrate will directly relate to the quality of the sound, so really you can set it to whatever you want. If you encode it at 32kbps and you think it sounds fine then you may as well encode it at 32kbps. Although if you encode somehting at 32Kbps and you think it sounds fine you'd have to have some sort of hearing disorder.

Please remember, you can't improve the quality of a song by raising the Bitrate after. If you source file is 64kbps and you reencode it to 128kbps it's not going to help.

The bitrate is how often it takes a sample of the sound in question. The higher the bitrate, the better the sound quality.

When converting the song use the same bitrate as the original song. You can go lower if you wish. I've found 128 kbps in mp3 to be the lower limit for acceptable sound quality, 192 kbps is near CD quality. Keep this in mind especially:
