    Hi Everyone,

I still haven't had time to spend on the phone with Brother, but I am going to have to soon. :(

Anyway, I have something that has been bothering for a very long time now. I have searched the web and received so much unsuccessful instructions I stopped even trying many months ago. Why I didn't think about the real deal "Major Geeks I just don't know.

As most of you know I am running Win 7 Pro SP1.

Something happened several months ago where about half of my Icons turned black. I have messed with it so many times I just gave up. One suggestion worked great until I rebooted then bam they were black again.

Thanks in advance for helping me fix this annoying problem...

    Hi Eldon,

Thanks for reaching out to me again. :)

I believe I may have tried this one once before but tried it again to be sure. When I got to the point of deleting the IconCashe.db file I had none. I did a restart anyway to no avail, still have many black icons. Like I said this problem is a dilly...

I will be calling Brother shortly to see if I can get that problem solved once and for all. I will keep you posted on that forum.

    Hi Eldon,

Well that took a long time to do, here is what happened.

I ran it the first time and all was great. I ran it the second time and it canceled out what the first times run did and I am back to square run. The only thing I didn't do the second time was run it via Safe Mode, I had already created a Reg BU and a restore point so I just ran it through the process in normal run state.

Could this have effected my results on the second run; canceling out what the first run had done?

You have no idea how happy I was to see all of my icons back to normal, only to see them disappear again was a total bummer :).

I would run the program again (in Safe Mode).

Why did you remove the shortcut arrows from the icons?

Do you mean to do it twice in safe mode. I really didn't understand why you had me do it twice when once worked, just wondering.

I just didn't like the site of the arrows over the icons. I have been doing like this for to many years to say, at least 10 that I am sure of :) ...

The author recommends running the program twice - #3.

Removing the shortcut arrows can corrupt the IconCache and rebuilding it will not help.
Why it would happen after so many years is anyone's guess.

    Hum, that is very interesting/confusing.

I am going to run that fix you sent me again in a little while, I will let you know how I make out.
