Black Screen crash!!

I'm wondering if you can help me with a problem which has started to occur quite recently.
I can play all msic/audio files, midi, wav mp3 etc but when I try to convert from one to another I get a black screen crash!
Initially this was a blue screen crash, but after updating all my audio codecs and drivers it has become a black screen crash!
I have Realtek Sound card, with all codecs installed with XP+sp2 updated, and as I say, all audio functions work, but I can't convert different music types!
I've tried everything to solve this problem, but am now looking for help, or even an indication of where to go to find a solution.
I recently downloaded a program called "Fresh diagnosis" and this has enabled me to determine that my M/S PCM Converter does not support conversion for different types of music.
and I have tried getting answers from the Microsoft site, to no avail!
Maybe some of your boffins (experts) could suggest a solution??

what do you use for conversion

 

Is there some connection? Roll back the driver update to that which worked or use system restore.
