black screen on boot with power

    I have a hp compac nc6220, when i power up, i have power lights on but no screen it is completely black, i can get the hp screen up if i take memory out and press a bunch of keys but it then says memory error. cannot get anything to come up with the ram in. any help much appreciated

    You could try connecting an external monitor and using Fn and one of the other F keys to enable the external monitor. Make sure there are no media cards left in any slots (probably not involved since you would still get the HP screen).

    If you don't get any other ideas I'll just post this link to clearing CMOS here so I don't lose it.

    You say your screen is totally Black..... Do you by any chance have a white small square in the top Left Hand corner ????
