black screen with a flashing cursor in top left corner ???

My husband was trying to load windows xp on a new hard in a desktop PC. Everything was working fine up to the screen that asks to press enter to install windows. When he pressed enter, he realized that he had not plugged in the keyboard. He plugged it in and pressed enter and it would not work. He thought his only option was to shut the computer off, disconnected power, plugged in key board, turn computer back on and now all he can get is a black screen with a flashing cursor in top left corner ???

Try powering up without the disk in the drawer.After powered, insert disk.
Might force Autoplay.

 

And just so you know, that black screen with the flashing cursor is your DOS screen.

 

Take a deep breath big frustration comes on quick with these darn boxes! Try starting from scratch, make sure that in the BIOS the boot sequence is set to the CD then restart it should pickup where it left off.

Glad it worked out I have learned from my mistakes and learn more each time I come up here, there are some great techies up here. I try helping in my small way so they can tackle the tough ones!
