I have a Compaq Presario M2000 series (M240xt). I have seen a few posts on here so I became a member so I could ask specific questions?

My LCD went black. I used the flashlight and can see my screen really well. i checked it in the control panel (default monitor) and rebooted. So if it is not the inverter...is it the bulbs?

    Thanks in advance

Make sure the brightness is turned up in the display settings (Fn + ??? somtimes) but you may want to contact Compaq if you still have warranty. Seems like the backlight is fubar.

There are usually several cold cathode fluorescent tubes inside your LCD display, but perhaps only one tube driver board(inverter board). This is a little circuit board that is responsible for the "dimming" of your display tubes as well as providing the AC current "boost" voltage to run them. In my experience, I've seen poor wire crimps on the three-pin connector which plugs into this tiny circuit board. There is also the possibility of a transistor failure on this board or even a cold solder joint on the male pins on the connector. If it's under warranty, then you should probably return it for repair. The circuit board is not complicated and is usually quite inexpensive. Many computer repair shops can give you a reasonable quote for this kind work, but only if you tell them what's wrong, so that you appear knowledgeable. :)
