black screen

i have an acer aspire laptop over a year old, and lately on start up it goes to a black screen , the cursor still shows and moves, but i have to reboot and it does a disc check before working fine, i have noticed that if i move it about it happens next startup but if i dont it seems to be fine,

 

Insert the OS setup/recovery disk, do a repair install. It should be mentioned in the user's manual.

 

Before doing anything as drastic as a repair install:

Turn off hibernation, reboot, do a disk cleanup, reboot, do an disk error check, reboot and - if you must - turn hibernation back on.

What was the result of the Check Disk run?

Did it fix any files or sectors?

Sometimes you have to run it two or three times.

Also describe the failure process completely from initially pressing the start to how you reboot a second time.

Is this Vista or XP?

 

ok before i do that i went into device manager because i thought emm drivers and under monitor there are 4 , 3 default drivers and a plug and play driver all dated 2001 could this be the cause , just wondering
