Hello, hehe, when I boot my PC, I only get a black screen then a typing cursor on the upper left corner before windows xp loads upon booting up, so I have to restart and restart certain number of times to get to the xp loading screen.

it's not some sort of command prompt since i cannot type anythign on it

And also, if lucky enough to get pass that black screen (by restarting a LOT), I'll now get into the Windows XP loading bar. After it finishes, I get a BLACK plain screen for around 3 minutes before it goes into the user selection page.

Usually when people get the blinking cursor they are just stuck on that screen and it never loads XP. So I don't want to mess you up.

I would make sure you have no CDs or media cards in any slots as these could be confusing the situation. If you have any USB devices try unplugging them and see if there is any change in how long it takes to boot.

I think chkdsk might be advised to try to fix the problem but it may leave your computer completely stuck at the black screen with blinking cursor so it is up to you how to proceed. That would be My Computer>right click C: drive and select Properties>Tools tab>Check disk for errors and select both boxes. It will ask to restart the computer and then run chkdsk before Windows starts.

Feel free to wait to see if you get other replies that may be more definitive.

LOL craziness like you guys were on it, like the information I needed, I would have still kept going at it after all I can now say I got a feel of what programmers must go through,

With you on the blinking cursor when first starting, became quite familiar with my bios, boot order, attempt to reset too default settings, F10 to make that the changes saved,

Then there was my exploration of going through and be quick on the draw with f8 he he he to configure safe mode yet I literally went through each and every last option, your absolutely right on the running in safe mode, I found it was really helpful to run in safe mode with the launching of the XP command prompt

I still have those commands in my heads config, briefs, kill, well I am sure you knows commands by heart, yet will say gonna sound weird but I actually was getting into it, oh well Im used too being weird any way, really thanks for the advice, I am seeing that in this tech world can be the most minute thing or can easily turn into something enormous, Im hoping that I will eventually strik a balance LOL :)
