When i came home from work the other day.. my computer was on(wife), but the monitor was black. She said it froze up, and when she turned it off, it wouldn't come back on. My specs are.

Now my 9800gtx+ video card, has 2 DVI outputs, I have tried both, and did manage to get it to boot, after several on and offs on the second port. But, when loading the pops up there are red letter saying the previous overclock has failed, blah blah.. but I thought I loaded default last year some time. Though i'm not certain. On the front of my computer there is a lilttle knob that controls the fan speed, and i'm thinking that he may have turned it off, while she was using it, and it over heated. though I'm not sure. There is also a slight little beeping coming from somewhere in the case, not loud, but it's definetly inside somewhere. I've looked at all the performace and monitoring reports, and don't see anything software related. issues, other than my video drive rthat has stopped working, but that's been happening on and off for a few weeks. I'm going to update video driver next and see what happens. any help or ideas would be great.

First, go into the BIOS and be sure the board is set to factory/failsafe defaults (no overclocking).

Second, if the beeping happens when you first turn on the PC, check the motherboard owners' manual (or pull it up at the mfr's. website). The beep pattern (# of beeps, short or long) may equal a "Morse Code" diagnostic of what problems the system is having.

    Hope this helps. :)

Thks 4 the reply, and I already loaded fail-sail defaults. then I can resatrs a few times, and eventually it will come back on. but a few hours later after reboot, same thing, red letters about overclocking... So I did manage to figure out my problem I hope at least. So in the process of swapping out the DVI ports on my Card, I happen to unplug all my USB devices in the back and the front.... And it started up normally. I was trying to play FIFA 12, SO i had to plug in my Logitech Dual-action.... FROZE.... unplug restart red letters about over clocking. restart w/ controller plugged in and can't get anything cept black screen. Upon closer examination, there are bare wires where the wire go into the controller, and I think it is shorting out something. Since it's been unplugged sometiem last night, I've tried numerous restarts, and other various thing to replicate the problem but can't seem to do it. Apparently a shorted out USB device is bad for a MOBO. If it does occur again I'll let u guys know. :cool

Yep. A shorted USB cable can cause weird issues. Been there, done that. ;)
