blank.exe - what is it?

hi all, does anyone know what blank.exe is, i have done a search and all i can find is references to uninstalled exe's still in my registry (HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT/applications/), can i remove all the exe's and fix the problem or is there something else?, i have w2kpro sp4, ta

 

blank.exe sounds like it may be related to malware. But that is just me. I'd post in the malware section of this forum.

Are you receiving an error stating blank.exe is missing when you try to use an application?
If so, it generally means you don't have an application set up in File Types in Folder Options to perform the action.
Windows looks for a .exe file but not able to find it dubs it 'blank.exe'
You need to give a more detailed description of your problem including any error messages you are receiving.

 

when i try to play cda and dvr a message pops up and says it can't find blank.exe, to locate the file click browse (or words to that effect), don't think this is malware, none of my anti-spy/mal/ad/virus scanners find any problems

 

Try this:
Control Panel>Folder Options>File types tab
Scroll down until you find those extensions (cda&dvr) hi light one at a time ,click 'Change' and pick the program you want to associate with the file type from the list.
If it's not on the list 'Browse' to the .exe for the program you want to use (most likely in 'C: Program files...the program's Name folder'
