I have a HP tablet pavilion tx1000 it will power up and seems to be running but the display is blank. I tried to hook it up to a external monitor but it does not register on that either any ideas on how to troubleshoot this?

If you press something like F2 at startup, can you get into the BIOS and see anything? If so, look around to see if video is enabled.
As far as a monitor not showing a display, sometimes on laptops, there is a keyboard combo to toggle the display between the laptop and the external monitor.
If you have a linux live CD, boot up from that. If you see no display, then you can conclude the onboard video chip went bad.
Other boot up CDs you might try: Hiren's, UBCD or any other windows troubleshooting CD that is bootable. Even an Acronis True Image rescue disk would work to see if a display is showing.

Pull out the cmos battery which looks like a small coin usually under your network card or harddrive hatch, leave it out for 10secs then replace and try and boot.

If that doesn't work pull out the hard drive and all add in cards and try to boot, still no joy pull out both sticks of memory then replace one and boot, remove then try with just the other stick.
