So something updated on my computer.. I'm not sure what it was, I wasn't on my computer at the time it did it. So now IE Window doesn't show anything on the page (my internet still works though) and the System Restore is completely blank too. It sounded like an WinXP SP2 update issue so I got some info on it being a ActiveX problem but nothing that I read and tried worked.

Anyway, any help would be appreciated.

    Thanks.

Has System Restore been disabled somehow?

You can check by right-clicking my computer and selecting properties. Click the System Restore tab, and make sure that the box beside 'Turn Off System Restore' is unchecked.

    Thanks for the quick reply.

I had already checked that. it is unchecked... and the screen isn't blank like it has been disabled.. It's just blank, as in the border window loads with the minimize/maximize/close at the top right..the inside is just blank.

The best step to start with:
    1. Click Start, and then click Run.
    2. In the Open box, type regsvr32 jscript.dll, and then click OK.
    3. Click OK.
    4. Click Start, and then click Run.
    5. In the Open box, type regsvr32 vbscript.dll, and then click OK.
    6. Click OK.

Might be more than just this going on, but it might be a place to start. Hope this helps!

    Thanks again..

I've tried the microsoft regedit ideas.. still a no go. However.. when I get into the regedit area the default value for what Microsoft recommends should read c:windows\system32\jscript.dll according to Microsoft.. so I change it to the recommended, and every time I reboot it changes back to the value of c:\Program Files\Common Files\Symantec Shared\Script Blocking\scrauth.dll

So I tried shutting down all the Norton Everything, the Zone Alarm firewall, Anything specific in MSConfig that might cause the constant switching back to scrauth.dll?

Go thru the steps again and add the one I have in bold.

    regsvr32 jscript
    regsvr32 vbscript
    regsvr32 /i mshtml

Out of curiosity, if you have previously did a REPAIR installation of XP, then the restore points will have been wiped out, and a new one will be created.

Also, is the System Restore service running within services?

Steve.. I did as you said.. and I still have a Blank System Restore, Blank IE below the toolbar, and there is a setting menu for Norton that came up blank as well when I was looking for a script config.

And I have recently (within the last 3 months) done a System Restore and there has not been a Repair.. and up until last night was able to use IE with no problems also.

(theefool) Where are the services you are talking about?

Last night you used IE just fine?

The services I'm talking about is the following:

Click START, then RUN, then type in: services.msc (press enter). Then hunt down System Restore (is this set to Automatic?) (Is it started?)

i just tried to edit that post.. I realized what you were talking about with the services (admin tools/component services) and yes... it's set to automatic.. the path executable also states that it's <c:\windows\system32\svchost.exe -k netsvcs> It also says it's started.

yeah.. IE was working fine.. then the roommate using it said it auto updated something right before it shut off, but the update didn't say what. this morning.. nothing works as far as system restore/IE. Nothing was installed by us manually or anything along those lines.

Ah yes.. NOt sure if this matters or if it would change anything.. so messing around seeing if it was a driver issue I ran Safe Mode and the screen comes up blank there as well..

    Thanks..

    Eric
