I wish I knew. That has been going on since before the days of the remote control. I really hate it!

I mostly only watch what I've recorded now, so the fast forward button is great!

I've found it's always local business commercials that are bad....those weird local car dealer or mattress commercials and things like that where they do their own filming and acting....that are the really loud ones. They probably don't have the sophistication in filming that the normal nationwide ones have.

They are definitely annoying. Like MaxTurner, I record about 90% of what I watch so skip them anyway, but I'd report them to the link Eldon gave you as it is illegal for them to be louder than the programming.

    yes
    BUT
nowadays I use the DVR and just bypass commericals BUT many times the TV is on and I'm at my computer or kitchen and the noise just shatters the moment... I thought in this age, there'd be an app or gizmo that would keep it level

I also record what I watch via DVR but I am not always in front of the tv with remote in hand...
    BUT
illegal? no, when a tv program has different levels of volume, say 5--5-5-5-5-6 and then the TV program has a LOUD explosion(climax of a scene) (10-9-10)then 5-4-5-- and commercials the commercials are at 10
since that was the same intensity of the program and not illegal.

right, but calling the cops to report stuff doesnt prevent it from happening
as I told L-dog a commerical can be loud and still legal, if their level of loudness is what the tv show used, as least once

when a tv program has different levels of volume, say 5--5-5-5-5-6 and then the TV program has a LOUD explosion(climax of a scene) (10-9-10)then 5-4-5-- and commercials the commercials are at 10

same way a food can have transfats and say it is Transfat free*

    so options
    none
    1 report the volume issue
    2 fast forward
    3 mute
    4 prevent? none

    sums it up, yes?

Some TV(s) have a "Smart Sound Mode" settings panel that will allow you to adjust the sound according to program content.

We shot cablevision down, and have the most basic, barebones package they offer. With some of the money we save (there's some leftover :D) we have NetFlix and Hulu with a desktop paired with a Logitech K400 connected to both TVs. After the umpteenth time I had to mute some idiotic prescription drug commercial on Hulu , we went commercial free for $12/month.

No more loud or annoying commercials, ever.

    :):):):):)

I have the most bareback cable package and I have tivo and dont watch commericals, but when I'm posting online, like now, the TV is on and I dont have the remote, so when commericals come on, they are loud and annoying. I was hoping there was a way to skip or mute/prevent the increase in volmune without me having to sit in front of the TV
have amazonprime and netflix and no those dont have comericals and no issues
I stil have comcast for about another month, thenI'll get google fiber cable and maybe they'll have a way and I'll get a new tv, maybe consumer reports has a way
thanks for the attempts at help

Yeah always be an PITA the volume change, not noticed it in the UK now as per MAX's post and like others 50+% of my viewing is recorded. Its not so bad in the UK as adverts in programmes are limited for now unlike the intrusive ones on US TV can be when you get an ad before the end credits roll. BUT if the EU has its way we will have intrusive adverts

    hmmm
1 I dont know what a PITA is, I googled it , Pain In The Ass?
2 yes, as i mentioned a never watch LIVE tv I have a dvr and record most of everything I watch BUT unless I sit with my hand on the remote, I STILL get the Volume increases when commercials come on , when I watch Prime/netflix, I dont have the PITA volume change
2.5 as I watch this, the TV is on and I'm not watching it, and sitting ready to hit mute/fast forward and i have it turned low, BUT commericals come and BOOM Goes the volumee
so I'm just gonna turn it off when I'm not watching.. (KISS*, eh?)
3 tangent--gotta hate the"edited for tv" stuff, where shows that are in synidcation LOSE lines/scenes to make room for more commercials....*sigh*
more and more I realize, MDs/TV/grocery stores are all trying to sell me stuff I don't need to get my money..

*Keep It Simple, Stupid--there now you wont need to google stuff, the post is complete!

    1. Yes a great shortening of the phrase
    2. I do watch a mix of live and recorded, more recorded as I'm way too busy of late to have time to watch TV shows live, catch up on certain days.
2.5 Me listening at present to builders demolishing an old add on building of ours to built a new util room
    3. OHHHHH edited for TV is shit! why the hell not show it at the appropriate time if its got BAD words.

I have people at my job, (20-30) who don't have DVRS and watch netflix, but also watch a live TV
"oh, Idont watch MUCH tv" is what they say when I say they need a DVR
ok... ? but come ON! YOU NEED A DVR..... fast forwarding through crap TV is the way to go
cept one gal who proudly remarks,"OH, I DONT WATCH TV!!" really ask around! people know this about me!"

-do you not read? not use the internet? TV has Many perks to it, you can watch MTV all day, or use it as a tool to be a better person
oh, she's a gamer and plays WOW in her off hour

    I'm a gamer, I admit, I"M A NERD"

no, nerds are people who are smart..playing video games all day does not mean you are smart OR making MONEY, as nerds do
the origins of the word "nerd." The word "nerd" was started on in 1954, by a young doctor by the name of Seuss, in a line that read, "A merkle, a nerd, and a seersucker too!" If you don't wish to defile nerddom by calling someone a nerd, you can also call them a "seersucker."[2]
    • The general connotation is of an irritating, unattractive person who may be brilliant, but chooses to focus on non-social pursuits.[3]
    • Another definition of "nerd" is a four-letter word with a six-figure income.[4]

AND YES why show a TV show that's EDITED? well, money, but its a bait switch same as the movie preview has scenese they show in comericals that are not in the movie
