"Block" IE7 from future updates

Recently, I saw somewhere (here at MG I thought) an app or tool or whatever that will block and prevent IE7 from being downloaded and installed when updating Windows XP. Did I see this? Was it here at MG? Or did I hallucinate? :confused
If someone has a link or more info, please post!
    Thanks.

Um...just set your updates to alert you but not download...then when it does alert you, choose manual install and uncheck the IE7 download and exit..it will prompt you that it will no longer be downloaded.

I'm not sure if this would work, butt you can try a manual / custom update, then select to hide IE 7 then return to your auto settings. ( maybe auto settings override hidden updates? don't know... I've never tried)

    I use exclusively,only manual update my Windows...:major

since i'm here, can anyone tell me how to delete ie7 (way to slow, i've even disabled addons), and revert back to ie6? i'd like to be able to use ie6 instead of 7.

*doesn't mean to hijack dlb's thread* :p - thx, sos

No, that's not it.... I could have sworn that I saw a download somewhere that, when installed, would prevent IE7 from downloaded and installed. Wishful thinking I guess. Personally, I do manual updates also. I go to Windows Update once a week or twice a month and see what's up. This isn't for me; I haven't used IE in months. It's for a friend of mine who isn't the brightest bulb in the chandelier when it comes to PC upkeep, and he runs some older real estate stuff that doesn't play well with IE7. So I end up going over there and removing it on a regular basis. If I could block IE7 altoghter, he could keep the updates set for fully auto, and I wouldn't have to go across town needlessly everytime his updates get installed....

@sosamon>sent you a PM... EDIT-No, I didn't. You have PMs disabled. You can remove IE7 by going to Add/Remove Programs. Scroll to the bottom and you'll see 'Windows Internet Explorer 7'. Remove it like anything else and agree to the numerous warnings you're likely to get. Reboot when prompted and IE6 will be back.

EDIT- I went through all the links in the thread sosamon linked to above, and yes, what I was looking for was there/ But it turns out that MS has a found a way to disable and go around their own blocker tool. But I'm going to try it anyway. ;)
    Thanks!

When you first open the MG home page, you click on the Support Forums link, at the top (screenshot 1 below). You then log in. After you log in, you'll click on the "User CP" link (screenshot 2 below). This is the user Control Panel where you set up all your stuff like PMs, avatars, all the good stuff....

dlb, i have already uninstalled ie7, and rebooted. have you tried the "IE7BlockerToolkit" yet? i've d/l it, extracted it, but do i do anything else from there?

edit - there has to be something else to it? anyway, i think i got rid of it this way (thru automatic updates). i have mine set to notify me, but don't automatically d/l or install them. - sos

From one of my earlier posts....
....and no, I haven't checked out the IE7 Blocker just yet. I'm waiting for my friend to call me and ask me to come over and remove IE7 (again) and I'll try it then. It might be a few days....
