Hi, I work in a store that requires employees to go online to login to our POS system. We need to use internet explorer for this. However, I would like to make it so my employees are not able to "surf the web", just go to our POS website. Does anyone know of anyway to do this? Let me know asap. Thank you very much.

If the host file can use wildcards someway you could most likely pull it off with that. You could also block the sites within the browser itself.

Of course doing so would be easy for most people to over come. Changing the host file would catch a few more.

Other then that you'd have to use a firewall or some third party app to block it and then password protect that program to stop employees from unblocking it.

Have you experimented with the Content Advisor in IE? There are settings to both block sites and allow only some.

Yes, Iv'e experimented with content advisor. Content advisor will block any sites with adult content or extreme language, and will allow me to make a list of sites not to block, but it will not block ALL sites and only allow some. Does anyone know of any 3rd party app that can do what I need it to do?

That's interesting. I was thinking of using the host file. But I was looking for some sort of wild card to use in the domain names to point them all to 127.0.0.1. They do it by just disabeling DNS normally and then putting what you need in the host file. Sort of the exact opposite of what I was thinking.

The only downfall is to overcome this lock out all you have to do is reenable dns which can be done from a standard menu. I guess it's the best you can do without some third party apps though.

Content advisor can be manipulated to restrict all web sites. I think by using a different ratings system. Its been a long time since we used it, but we managed to lock out all web site but approved ones via the CA.
